The core competence at The Department of Economics at NTNU is on applied work, but also theoretical work on environmental and resource economics and macroeconomics economics is strong. The Department of Economics publishes within several fields including environmental and resource economics, development economics, political economy, and public economics. In natural resource economics research focus has been on the utilization of renewable resources together with resource curse analysis. Renewable resource studies include efficient management of fish stocks and rivers with Atlantic salmon, common property management of reindeer grazing land, and how to handle conflicts between wild animals and farmers.
